Who's left to put out the magazine?

The continuing Maclean's watch: 17-year veteran Senior Editor Barbara Wickens got her walking papers on Monday. We're losing count of the experienced, senior people who've been shown the door.

Are any of them talking? Why are they all being shown the door? Too old. Too liberal? Too expensive?

Of course no one is saying, but Whyte was clear that he was going to make changes and to afford to bring in people who think like him and are loyal to him, he must make room by removing senior, experienced people. It's mostly about the money but also a little bit about ideology (note the sharp rightward shift of story choice in recent months -- a hymn of praise to Wal-Mart, a laudatory story about Alberta's money, contrarian excerpt plucked from George Jonas's book which amounted to what could be characterized as "soft" Holocaust denial.)

There is also some muttering that it is part of an attempt to bust the union.
