The Gentlewoman cometh to Canada

Apparently, there's to be a new and quite different magazine for women available in Canada -- The Gentlewoman -- a spinoff from the hip, retro and much-talked about Euro-magazine Fantastic Man, published by a company out of Amsterdam. [Thanks to eye weekly for alerting us to the impending arrival]. Fantastic Man talks about such pressing issues of whether to wear jeans with a suit jacket, or how to wear cufflinks. Two issues a year cost you US$29. Apparently The Gentlewoman is a fitting companion, launched on Tuesday at a Paris cocktail party and due to arrive in Canada on March 22 or thereabouts.
And now, the first cover stars Phoebe Philo — head designer at Celine, major instigator of the alleged “new modesty,” and #1 trending topic on my Twitter [says eye blogger Sarah Nicole Prickett]. Inside, find design critic Alice Rawsthorne, artist Jenny Holzer, and swimmer Lynne Cox — all in a league of their own.

That has to be one of the crappiest looking covers I've ever seen.

Agreed. I think they were going for retro "cool," but ended up with the cover of a 1977 knitting pattern book.

It's a shame the bar code landed where it did, and they could have made better use of the basement lines below the image – but I think it's sexy.
