Harrowsmith Country Life in limbo after firing six key staff

It would appear that Harrowsmith Country Life magazine is in serious difficulty. According to a story in Masthead, six senior staff were let go by Malcolm Publishing July 25. Word is that the six-times-a-year magazine has only published one issue so far this year (and then weeks late) and that the second issue, while printed, is sitting on the printer's floor but has not been mailed.

I found a couple of back issues at Value Village, and just went online today to subscribe to Harrowsmith... talk about lousy timing!

I am so angry about this. I loved that magasine. I don't even care that I lost 40 bucks when I renewed my subscription at Christmas. Harrowsmith was a Canadian jewel and to see it being wiped away because of mismanagement really ticks me off. BRING BACK HARROWSMITH COUNTRY LIFE.

Harrowsmith is the quintessence of rural canada and should be declared an essential service for every canadian that lives outside the drug infested squalor of the citys. There is a healthy and real need for a publication of this caliber and I find it incomprehensible that a magazine of this quality can just fade into an accountants death.
If in fact our beloved Harrowsmith is dead we shall have to see what arises from the ashes - rather the vacuum that will be created by this magazine not being there.
Mr James Lawrence:
It is time for you to spread your wings again. The first 50 or so issues of harrowsmith were unparalleled literary astistry - canadians need this form of fresh air on paper. What you started 35 years ago cannot be allowed to die.

The post from "unknown" is so true. I started reading Harrowsmith in the early 80's when I found myself out on the farm with hardly a soul in sight. Harrowsmith became a lifeline and taught me many things about farm life. I treasure each issue and have them neatly arranged on a shelf of honour for all to peruse. Mr. Lawrence, if you read this...thank you.

Since 1993 I have given Christmas gift subscriptions to family and friends. The list had grown to eleven subscriptions, which I renewed April 2010 for two years,
for a total payment of $415.25 I question where is my refund?

So, this is why I can not find Harrowsmith on the news stand anymore. I too have been getting this magazine forever, it was a great shock to find out it no longer exists. Come on people, bring it back!

So, this is what happened. I subscribed for the first time around Christmas last year and have only received on issue. I have been looking and looking for the magazine. There was a postal strike for a while and I thought that slowed down us receiving the magazine. Well, that was money well spent... Very Disapointed. Any chance a person could get their money back??

Last week I recieved a letter that I figured was junk mail. Upon reading it said something to the effect of "Harrowsmith is no longer please go to this website by Nov.24 (I think) and you will be compensated by choosing two issues of another magazine". I cannot find this letter anywhere!! I had wanted to visit this site tonight but cannot locate this letter. I just discovered Harrowsmith a year ago and it saddens me having only loved it for such a short time.

After reading today about the "DEATH" of this LIFELINE for rurally living Canadians I am more than distressed!I do hope that there might be a resurrection of this wonderful resource in the very near future!
